Coccidia - What does NOT work
Well, the coddiosis trial is done! Hooray! The students did an absolutely fabulous job. It was a lot of work but it was very rewarding for our graduating senior. The results? Green tea and Apple Cider Vinegar (with the mother; Braggs Brand) had no prophylactic effect on coccidia. What did we measure? Water consumption (daily – whew that was a ton of work); body weight gain; gut lesion scores; and oocyst counts. I was really hoping to see a difference in the last two things. But, oh well. So the next steps will be to change up the dosages to see if we can see a difference. I would like to increase the concentration of the tea and ACV to see what happens (with my luck, it will probably be considered undrinkable by the chickens). Since we used the low doses of the treatments, we also used a low dose of a coccidia blend. I would be interested in increasing the dose of coccidia to see what happens. All in good time. Thank you to all of you for your wonderful input! Share this with others to help them help their flocks.
